This self portrait began when I took Kara Timmons workshop on portrait painting using this Grisee glazing technique! I loved the workshop, I love Kara and her work and this is heavily inspired by her own self portraits!
After the day of painting at the workshop I knew this portrait had more to tell me and teach me. This is a painting about the fear of being seen, the desperate attempt to go unnoticed while also craving connection and attention. The flowers in my hair represent the masks that I’ve worn in order to feel safe, and sitting in the reflective waters I can finally unfold to see myself and slowly bloom to feel safe being seen in my FULL authenticity by others.
